last tuesday we had the opportunity to celebrate the lives of our dear friends heather and janis. two amazing ladies who touched so many and created so much joy. which is why i think they would have approved of the festivities in their honor. their families donated their stashes and we auctioned them off to benefit the cancer council of reno county. there was good food, good friends, plenty of goodhearted trash talk, and raucous behavior. in the end, the yarn was redistributed back into the community that will love and honor it the most. plus, we raised a lot of money for a great cause. (lets be honest cancer sucks, and since we can’t physically roundhouse kick it in the face, the next best thing is to support the people who help the most)

…don’t let those serious auction faces fool you…those people were having a blast!
our final total was $1,694 dollars! (take that stupid cancer)
from sandy woodson, excutive diretior of the CCRC (and a darn good knitter)
“the cancer council of reno county would like to thank everyone who bought heather’s and janis’s “stash” at the auction tuesday night. your contribution will fund one cancer patient’s needs for one year! bless each and everyone of you!! our “friends” would have loved it!”
and since its christmas i have two gifts for you…first is the january newsletter…click here to read it.
and second is some pretty fantastic news…yarn is moving locations…we’ll be heading downtown to be right in the thick of all of the excitement we’ve got going on in our great town. its going to be a great year y’all. have a happy holiday and toast our many blessings.
thank you so much friends and cheers…….shannon

the big announcement
so here is the scoop, the big news, and i have to say i’m really excited to tell you.
but before i do, lets take a small pause to realize that our beloved store recently turned 6. did you know we’ve been around 6 years? it kind of blows my mind to think about. when i think about what this place means to me and how this shop has changed my life…really i can only say thank you to debbie for taking that leap. she dreamed our wonderful community into being. so just for kicks you want to look at some yarn store snapshots?

thanks, i needed that…
so the big news is that debbie has passed the torch and yarn has a new owner….who is me. i want a lot more pictures to add to our photo album y’all and i hope we can add some new faces too! i’ve got some exciting stuff planned so you should check back here often. and just in case you missed last night, here are a couple of pictures from the party.

and now as promised! the recipe for our toasting beverage.
yarn’s peach bellini
1 bottle of spumante champagne
1 can peach nectar
1 can sprite
6ish oz peach schnapps
mix in a pitcher and pour over frozen peach slices
drink and done!
cheers…shannon

which means the state fair is coming….soon! which means we need a september newsletter pronto (pup..hehehe)
click here to read the september newsletter

and mark monday september 12th on your calanders becuase the twisted stitches are hitting the fair! and i challenge you all to a giant slide race (i’m the champion two years running now…not that i’m bragging)
also cindy the over achiever is demonstrating at 10am on saturday 10 at the domestic arts building.
she did it
rarely, um if ever, am i completely speechless. i always have something to say, some joke to crack, some story to share. something. not this time. i’ve been stewing over the last couple of days trying to figure this little problem out, and i’ve got no answer. there’s only this.
three days ago, when we felt the first promise of fall (the season every knitter lives for) we lost an amazing friend and knitter. heather emel was an original twisted stitch who never apologized for who she was or how she thought. she could be simultaneously frustrating and inspirational. you would never ever (seriously ever) win an argument with her and she has left me speechless. so, what i’m going to do is talk about good food and tasty beverages with fantastic friends. which is what i think heather would have preferred to hear anyway.
tuesday night the twisted stitches took a field trip down to wilders to enjoy the lasagna smackdown between chef tod and peter. we were 18 strong with big appetites and even bigger opinions. so the even fit us just fine. check it out.

mr. fast had a really witty comment involving the accurateness of the waiter and the size of the hole he hit. i’m sure you can just fill that in yourself.

the round plate (later revealed to be chef tod’s)

the square plate (later revealed to be peter’s)

the super official ballot

chef tod totally won, which i think is good? i mean since he is the chef and all. either way it was a huge blast and i think we all look forward to the next event they plan.

also there was the option of lemon buttermilk ice cream for dessert.

which i think crazy aunt mary really really enjoyed.

so look y’all do me a favor. where ever you’re at stop and raise a glass to our friend heather. or better yet join us this tuesday as we laugh, knit, and toast her at the shop.
…there, you win heather. cheers…..shannon
