and its not like i haven’t endured some pain for this project.
so i’ve been fighting the whole calf increase battle since then…i’ve increased two needle sizes, i’ve started doubling the faggoting, hell i thought about just double wrapping everything. alas, i had to write a new increase…which meant re-writing the lace pattern…which nearly killed me. i’ve done the math over and over, but it’s just one of those things that you have to try out. so i tried on saturday….it was scary. i wanted to jump off a cliff, except we’re in kansas and those are hard to come by, so i was prepared to jump off our window ledge. (i realize this wouldn’t have produced the same result, but i was committed to dramatic effect) debbie told me to call andrea…we’re talking 911 knitting emergency. so i texted her…”my stocking hates me and i think i’m going to start bad mouthing lace.” she replies…”back away and start a dish cloth.” can you believe that? she actually was trying to encourage my knitting a.d.d.! i then reminded her about the CONTRACT and asked if she really wanted to be bound to me and my stockings for life…she came to help after that.
here is a story in pictures that convey what happened next.
don’t worry, everyone survived. lace was conquered, and andrea is still my hero. she has suggested that i learn to suck in my calves though. thanks andrea
cheers….shannon
***andrea requested that i remove the picture of her flamboyant hand gesture…becuase she is such a classy lady i abdicated. now, when i first wrote this i left out a part of the story…debbie was sad so i have decided to take this oppurtunity to share. the lace pattern has two parts, the narrow gathered lace and the wide gathered lace. except the wide gathered lace was not wide enough so i joked that i was writting double-wide lace. except my double-wide had been hit by a tornado andall i could see was plastic pink flamingos swirling around and i was all out of virgina slims…it was scary.****
